Natalie Barg
Natalie is a junior at American University majoring in Communication Studies and International Studies. Originally from Ukraine, Natalie came to the U.S. when she was three years old. She has always had a passion for what is going on in the world and how she can get involved with the issues. Natalie has been an editor for her previous college’s newspaper. She enjoys reading, writing, traveling, and just being around the people she loves.
Valerie Beard
Valerie is a sophomore at American University studying journalism and environmental studies. She hopes to become a photo journalist for a newspaper or wildlife magazine, or have a career as a broadcast news anchor. Fascinated by the Amazon rainforest and other countries, Valerie plans to study abroad her junior year in a Spanish speaking country and travel as much as she can for work. She plays competitive soccer whenever she can and loves experimenting with graphic design. Currently an intern at McGraw-Hill Companies, Valerie graduates in May 2011.
Sarah Cough
Sarah Cough is a sophomore at American University double majoring in print journalism and literature. She has loved learning and the news since she first began reading. In high school, she had several stories published in her hometown newspaper, The Mount Desert Islander. She hopes to write for a newspaper or online publication when she graduates.
Bronwyn Flores
Bronwyn, a native of Alexandria, Virginia, is a sophomore majoring in Print Journalism and Political Science. She loves going to a small school in a big city and plans to work in the District after graduation. She hopes to work as a reporter for the Washington Post and eventually go on to write books. This summer she will be interning at CNN. Bronwyn currently works in sales at Gold’s Gym and is soon to be a Spin instructor. She enjoys running, going to outdoor concerts and beach volleyball.
Rebecca Lange
Rebecca is a sophomore at American University. She is majoring in Print Journalism with a minor in Graphic Design. Originally from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Rebecca came to D.C. for the fast-paced energy of the city. Rebecca plans to stay in D.C. after graduation, hopefully working for a magazine or newspaper. Currently, Rebecca has two jobs: dental office assistant and sales associate at Mustard Seed in Bethesda, MD. In her free time, Rebecca enjoys drawing, dancing, and kickboxing.
Sam Lindauer
Sam Lindauer is a sophomore Print Journalism major at American University. Sam’s minor is Cinema Studies and his favorite film is Brazil. Sam is the director of Sportszone which appears on AU’s TV station, ATV. Sam is a contributing writer in the Sports Section for the The Eagle, American University’s newspaper. Sam is a huge baseball fan and loves the New York Yankees. He hopes to have a career in sports journalism in print or TV.
Katie Mattern
Katie Mattern is a sophomore from Ligonier, Pa. studying print journalism and international studies, specializing in Africa, at American University. Following two of her greatest interests, sports and African studies, Katie has been a communications intern at the AU Athletics department for the past year and an intern at Africa Faith and Justice Network working on raising awareness and support for street children. She plans on becoming an international correspondent and working more in Africa.
Gabriela Melendez
Gabriela Melendez is a junior at American University majoring in print journalism with a minor in international studies. She is a transfer student from her hometown of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Prior to leaving in San Juan, she lived in Monterrey, Mexico for 14 years. She aims to use her experience living in two Latin American cultures to enhance her perspective as a journalist. Ideally for the future, she hopes to work for a job that combines both international politics and communications.
Kristin Parrota
Kristin is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a sophomore at American University majoring in Russian language and broadcast journalism. She is a contributor to Socialist Appeal newspaper and HandsOffVenezuela.org. She enjoys traditional Greek dancing and performing as a street musician at DC Metro stations. She plans to study in Moscow next year and hopes to someday work for a foreign news service or as a translator for the National Hockey League.
Jordyn Phelps
Jordyn is a sophomore double majoring in international peace and conflict resolution and journalism. She is interested in journalism because of its commitment to reveal truth. Jordyn was raised in New Mexico, and while she says she never stops missing the desert, there is no place like D.C. for pursuing her dreams. She gained journalistic experience working at an ABC affiliate station during the summer of 2008, where she assisted in producing, reporting, and writing
Kelsea Edgerly
Kelsea Edgerly, from Annapolis, Maryland, is a sophomore at American University. Kelsea is pursuing a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Theater. She attributes her drive towards journalism to the reporting and coverage of events which took place on September 11th, 2001. She hopes to travel to Cairo to study journalism next summer. In high school, Kelsea served as Editor- in- Chief for her school paper, and had several stories published in her hometown newspaper, The Capital. Kelsea currently works for WAMU – NPR Radio in Tenleytown.
Eric Goldfine
Erica is a junior at American University majoring in Communication Studies. Erica is originally from Albuquerque, NM and is studying at Hebrew University in Jerusalem next Spring. She is currently the Communications Intern at Share Our Strength, a non-profit that combats childhood hunger. Previously, she worked for United States Senator Jeff Bingaman.
Geena Wardaki
American University from Darien, Connecticut. She is currently working on a major in print journalism and hopes to pursue a career as a magazine journalist. One of Geena’s activities at school is the DC Reads tutoring program where she works with children in D.C. public schools. Geena loves to travel and is planning to study abroad next year as a junior.
Mackenzie Kolling
Mackenzie is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is currently a junior at American University majoring in broadcast journalism with a minor in political science. She transferred to AU from Penn State University at University Park after her freshman year to take advantage of the plethora of opportunities and internships available in Washington, DC. At Penn State, Mackenzie was a nation/world staff reporter for the Daily Collegian and vice-president of the College of Communications Student Council. Apart from her academic classes at AU, Mackenzie has interned at the U.S. House of Representatives, and she is currently interning in the Investigative Unit at NBC News. She has also been a contributing reporter for the Eagle. During her free time, Mackenzie enjoys playing golf and tennis, and she also has a passion for traveling.
Lucy Strange
Lucy is a Junior in the School of Communication majoring in Broadcast Journalism and double minoring in International Studies and Physics. She has worked on the hill for Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro and at WAMU 88.5 Radio station. This spring she is Studying abroad in Japan. After graduation she wants to work as a Foreign Correspondent.
Jimmy Hascup
Jimmy Hascup is a sophomore majoring in print journalism and minoring in finance in economics. Growing up in Bergen County, New Jersey, Jimmy lives and breathes sports and knows what it’s like to live in an area that demands winning sports teams. After graduation, he wants to work in NYC. Jimmy is interested in writing for a major newspaper or magazine.
Michelle Carlson
Michelle Carlson is a junior at American University majoring in Broadcast Journalism and double minoring in International Relations and French. Already fluent in Spanish she hopes to be trilingual by the end of her study abroad experience in Paris next semester. She aspires to be an anchor on a television broadcast network.
Tess Fulton
Tess Fulton is a Junior studying Communications and French. She can most often be found in Washington DC but belongs in East Tennessee. In her spare time, she enjoys going to concerts and hanging out with her friends.
Rachael Monnin
Rachael Monnin is a senior is SIS who appreciate the necessity of communicating effectively. She has worked in broadcast journalism as a correspondent on ATV’s Year to Date for two semesters. In her spare time, Rachael runs and teaches swimming to toddlers-first graders in the D.C. area. She enjoys going to the Smithsonians on snow days and tasting the fabulous and diverse restaurents in the District.
Nadia Galindo
Nadia Galindo is a transfer student at American University from Dallas, Texas. She is majoring in Spanish and broadcast journalism. She has interned with the washingtonpost.com Discussion section where she produced live discussions between readers and talent. She loves to travel and meet new people and hopes to one day become a foreign correspondent in Latin America.
Alexis Rodriguez
Alexis Rodriguez, a senior at American University started her work as a student journalist in highschool where she first wrote for the school’s newspaper. She started broadcast journalism her freshman year of college, but after completing an abroad internship she has come to realize a second passion in law. She hopes to complete a law degree and possibly combine the two professions.
Maureen McCarty
Maureen is a junior at American University pursuing a major in print journalism and a minor in sociology. She currently works as the assistant Metro/National News editor at the Eagle, the editorial assistant at “The World and I” magazine, and an intern at washingtonpost.com
Zack Solomon
Zack is a Senior at American University pursuing a major in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Health Promotion. He is currently interning in AU’s Athletic program in the Sports Information Department. He has a strong passion for sports news.
